World’s first hack-proof software developed

Scientists have developed what they claim is the world’s first hack-free software which can protect systems from failure or malicious attacks.

The seL4 microkernel has been developed by a team led by Australia’s ICT Research Centre of Excellence’s spinout company — Open Kernel Labs. It is a small operating system (OS) kernel that regulates access to a computer’s hardware.

Russia signed with United States

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Friday signed into law the ratification of a landmark nuclear arms cut pact with the United States,

The treaty limits each country to 1,550 strategic warheads, down from the current ceiling of 2,200, and to 700 deployed carrier vehicles.


Excellent Rating award for DCI

Dredging Corporation of India Ltd, a Schedule B Company and a mini Ratna Category-I public sector undertaking, has achieved the MoU rating of “Excellent” for 2009-10. The profit after tax of the company is Rs.70 crores for the year as against Rs.46 crores for 2008-09.

DRDO plans another K-15 missile launch

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) plans another test-firing of the K-15 missile from a pontoon off the coast of Visakhapatnam.

Developed under the Sagarika project, the K-15 has been test-fired several times from submerged pontoons off Visakhapatnam.

It will climb 20 km in air before cutting a parabolic path and travelling over 700 km.

K-15 will be part of the arsenal of first nuclear-powered submarine Arihant


Ramky Infrastructure Limited has bagged the “Distinguished Water Company” award

Ramky Infrastructure Limited has bagged the “Distinguished Water Company” award for 2010-11 given by Water Digest, a water magazine. The award, which was presented to the company on at New Delhi, is supported by UNESCO and the Ministry of Water Resources with a focus on people, innovation and processes that contribute to sustainability of water resource.

Verizon to buy Terremark for $1.4 billion

Verizon Communications Inc. said it was buying Terremark Worldwide Inc., a provider of information technology services, for $1.4 billion in cash.


Gopalan is Economic Affairs Secretary

The government appointed R. Gopalan, a 1976-batch IAS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, Economic Affairs Secretary in the Finance Ministry.

He will replace Ashok Chawla, who is currently the Finance Secretary in charge of Department of Economic Affairs. Mr. Chawla retires on January 31.
