The veteran Congress leader served as Speaker of the fifth Lok Sabha for about a year during the Emergency after his election to the post on January 6, 1976.

Apart from holding several posts in the Union Cabinet, Mr. Bhagat also served as Governor of Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan from 1993-98.

Baldev Raj, Director of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) in Kalpakkam has been elected president of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE).

Baldev Raj is INAE's new chief

Baldev Raj, Director of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) in Kalpakkam has been elected president of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE).







T.Ashok Babu, scientist, Advanced Systems Laboratory (DRDO), Hyderabad, has been elected as vice-president of the Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centres, Kolkata, for 2011-13.

Google said that Rajan Anandan, the former Managing Director of Microsoft, has joined the company as Vice-President (Sales and Operations) and Head of India region.







K. Rajagopal passes away

He was the chairman of Southern India Mills' Association (SIMA) from 1975 to 1977 and again from 1992 to 1994. He was the chairman of the Indian Cotton Mills' Federation (ICMF) from 1980 to 1982 and was also a committee member of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (1980 to 1982).

Former Union Minister passes away

Former Union Minister and a political stalwart of erstwhile Circar districts Bulusu Prabhakara Butchi Krishna -- SBPBK Satyanarayana Rao-- (90) died

He severed as Minister of State for Agriculture in the Vajpayee government for two years between 1999 and 2001. He was MP from Rajahmundry constituency till 2004






Oscar-nominated British director Peter Yates died. He was nominated in the best director and best picture categories both for cycling story 'Breaking Away' and backstage drama 'The Dresser'.





Honour for Research Centre Imarat scientist, G. Satheesh Reddy

G. Satheesh Reddy, Director, Inertial Systems, Research Centre Imarat (RCI), a premier laboratory of Defence Research and Development Organisation's missile complex here, has been conferred with the prestigious INAE (Indian National Academy of Engineering) fellowship.

The fellowship was conferred in recognition of his contributions to aerospace engineering and for spearheading the indigenous design, development and technology transfer and production of core critical navigation systems and sub-systems for missiles, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), fighter aircraft and other applications for strategic needs of the country.






Sailaja Suman was appointed as new Director of Doordarshan.





New Chief Executive for ZTE Telecom

ZTE Telecom India Pvt. Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of ZTE Corporation, has appointed Cui Liangjun as the new Chief Executive. Incumbent CEO Huang Dabin will continue working with ZTE at its headquarters in Shenzhen, China. Prior to his new role, Mr. Cui was the Vice-General Manager and Chief Technology Officer of ZTE Telecom India. Mr. Liangjun will be responsible for leading the ZTE India executive team.





Surinder Jakhar, IFFCO chairman and son of Balaram Jakhar, died of injuries he sustained when his pistol allegedly went off accidentally at Abohar.
