International conference on “Cities and Climate Change”

The conference is being organised jointly by the Department of Environment and Forest of Delhi Government, ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability and Centre for Sustainable and Environmental Health.

They announced in the conference that Delhi, which is busy preparing its solar power policy, will soon become a city of rooftop solar energy appliances.


R. S. Butola, Next Chairman of Indian Oil Corporation

ONGC Videsh Ltd. (OVL) Managing Director R. S. Butola will be the next Chairman of Indian Oil Corporation.

The file of apppointment is sent to the cabinet and yet to be approved.

RAPS-1 reactor not decommissioned

The first reactor at the Rajasthan Atomic Power Station, the RAPS-1 at Rawatbhatta, near Kota, has been shut down permanently since October 2004.

The natural uranium fuel has been taken out of the reactor, and the heavy water, which acted as both coolant and moderator, drained from it. The 100 MWe reactor has not been decommissioned though.

The reactor has had a chequered history since it started generating commercial electricity in December 1973.


SAIL to invest $12 billion in four steel plants abroad

Steel Authority of India said it planned to put up four three million tonne manufacturing facilities — one each in Indonesia, Mongolia, South Africa and Oman — at a cumulative investment of $12 billion.

Bangalore to host BuildArch 2011

Bangalore International Exhibition Services (BIES) in association with Hannover Milano Fairs India will be launching the second edition of BuildArch2011 in Bangalore.

The exhibition is scheduled from February 23 to 26.

Reliance sells 30 pc stake in 23 blocks for USD 7.2 bln

Reliance Industries has announced sale of 30 per cent stake in its 23 blocks including the giant KG-D6 gas fields to UK's BP Plc for 7.2 billion US Dollars.

Reliance has a portfolio of 29 exploration blocks besides the 30 per cent interest it holds in the Panna-Mukta and Tapti oil and gas fields off the west cost.

BP will pay Reliance an aggregate consideration of 7.2 billion US Dollars and future performance payments of up to 1.8 billion US Dollars.


Aranmula Ponnamma passes away

Aranmula Ponnamma, national award winning cine artiste whose roles as the mother of the leading character in numerous Malayalam films had made her synonymous with the mother image in Kerala, died at the age of 97
