A team of Indian-American scientists has developed a smart tracking system, which could provide an alternative to the radio tags that were recently tied to the ankles of some Indian students after the university they were studying in shut down on charges of visa fraud.


CIL bags international award

Coal India Limited (CIL) has bagged the ‘Century International Quality ERA Award (CQE)' in the Gold Category in recognition of its commitment to quality, leadership, technology and innovation. 

The awards were given by Business Initiative Directions (BID), a leading private organization focused on the quality mix plan. R Mohan Das, Director (Personnel & Industrial Relations), CIL, received the award in Geneva on March 7 on behalf of the company from Jose E. Prieto, President, BID.

Yashwantrao Chavan Award for Mahasweta Devi

Bengali writer and activist Mahasweta Devi was conferred the Yashwantrao Chavan National Award 2010 for her contribution to national integration, democratic values and the socio-economic development of India.

Jet Airways bags award from Airfinance journal

Jet Airways has bagged the regional deal of the year award for 2010 from Airfinance journal. 

The award was for structuring an innovative operating lease for its six ATR aircraft under a deal with Calyon Bank, France, and Investec in London. 

Under this deal, the airline took delivery of six new ATR aircraft between October and December 2010. This is the second such award accorded to the airline by Airfinance journal.

Astangaratna award

Mattakkara Ramachandran Nair has been selected for the Astangaratna title, the government award for comprehensive contribution in Ayurveda treatment, for the year.


Biren De passes away

Biren De, one of the pioneers of neo-Tantrik art in the country, passed away. He was 85.


Industrial growth decelerates to 3.7 per cent in January

Industrial growth turned sluggish in January this year to post a meagre increase of 3.7 per cent as compared to a robust expansion of 16.8 per cent achieved during the same month in 2010. 

The sectors mainly responsible for the tepid overall growth, as measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), were manufacturing and mining which witnessed significant deceleration in output.

Designed for the power gamer, the card includes AMD's second generation, Microsoft DirectX 11-capable architecture, advanced image quality features for the best looking games and AMD PowerTune intelligent technology to enable higher clock speeds and faster gaming.
