Six nations including India to dominate growth by 2025


Six major emerging economies including India will account for more than half of the global growth by 2025 and it is likely that the international monetary system will not be dominated by any single currency by that time, a new World Bank report.

The six countries-- Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, South Korea, and Russia-- will grow on average by 4.7 per cent annually between 2011 and 2025.





Mamata launches Rail Bandhu

The first on-board magazine of the Railways,Rail Bandhu, was launched by Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee.

It will be distributed free in the Rajdhanis, Shatabdis and AC coaches of the Durantos.





Turn-around CPSE Award 2010

Cement Corporation of India was conferred the “Turn-around CPSE Award 2010”. CCI Chairman-cum-Managing Director Mr. R. P. Tak received the award on behalf of the Corporation.

The award was conferred on 11 selected PSUs which earned profits during the past three years on a sustained basis.





Railway revenue earnings up by 10.74 % in April 2011

Railways have registered a growth of 10.74 per cent in terms of Revenue Earnings during April 2011 as compared to last year during the same period.

The total approximate earnings of Railways during the month of April this year were nearly 784 crore rupees more than the revenue earnings of 7296 crore rupees during the same period last year.





SanDisk to buy Pliant Technology for $327 million

Flash memory chip maker SanDisk announced that it would acquire Pliant Technology, a leading developer of enterprise solid state drive (SSD), for about $327 million in cash plus equity-based incentives.





Olympic marathon champ Sammy Wanjiru dies

Kenyan Olympic marathon champion Sammy Wanjiru died after jumping from a balcony.


In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Wanjiru became the first Kenyan to win a gold medal in the marathon, finishing in an Olympic-record 2 hours, 6 minutes, 32 seconds.





Arthur Howard passes away

Dr. Arthur W. Howard, a former coach of Indian athletics team and also the first Deputy Director of the National Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala, passed away in his home town in Warsaw, Indiana, USA. He was 96.





Sujana passes away

Noted litterateur S.J. Narayana Shetty, popularly known as Sujana, passed away. He was 81.
