Food security programme by 2012

Union Minister of State for Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution K.V. Thomas said that the Centre hoped to bring 75 per cent of the rural population and 50 per cent of the urban population in the country under the coverage of a comprehensive food security programme by 2012.

UPA ChairPerson to launch new rural mission

The father of actress and filmmaker Aparna Sen, Chidananda Dasgupta was born in Shillong in 1921. A close association with legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray led to the formation of the Calcutta Film Society in 1947 with Sergei Eisenstein's classicBattleship Potemkinas its first screening.

Global economy to grow 4.2 %: OECD

The global economy is projected to expand by 4.2 per cent this year, but rising oil and commodity prices and European debt crisis could hurt the overall recovery, according to Paris-based think-tank Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
The expected growth of the world economy is much lower than the 4.9 per cent rate achieved in 2010.
