Arafura Games: India win one Gold, two Silver. India won One Gold and two silver medals in the Arafura Games at Darwin in Australia. The gold was clinched by Pinki Jangra in the 51kg boxing caegory when she beat Siona Fernandes of New Zealand 18-13 in the final. 

The 21-year old pugilist was also awarded the 'Best Boxer' title for her fine performance in the tournament.

India's two silver medals came through Meena in the 60kg and Pooja in the 75kg divisions.




Petra Kvitova wins Madrid women's title. Petra Kvitova defeated Victoria Azarenka 7-6(3), 6-4 to win the ATP-WTA Madrid Masters women's title and earn herself a place in the top 10 in the world rankings of Tennis.



The Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal 6-4 6-4 in the Rome Masters final. With the victory at the Rome masters stretched his unbeaten start to the 2011 season to 37 matches. 

The second-ranked Djokovic won seven titles already this year, and beaten Nadal in all four finals they’ve played this year.



Defending world champion Sebastian Vettel raced ahead of Lewis Hamilton to win the Spanish Grand Prix. It was Vettel's 13th career win and he now has 118 points to lead Hamilton who is on 77 points by 41 points. 

Vettel representing Red Bull won four of this season's five races. In this race he needed all his skill and nerve to edge out his McLaren rival by just six tenths of a second after 66 laps of the Catalunya circuit near Barcelona.



Asian Games bronze medalist India’s Virdhawal Khade bagged eight medals, including three gold medals at the 54th Malaysia open swimming championship in May 2011. 

Khade won gold medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle events and two silver medals in the 50m and 100m butterfly events at the National Aquatics Centre in Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur. Ashwin Menon won a bronze in men's 200m backstroke with a timing of 2:10.86s.



India's middle-distance runner Ghamanda Ram won silver in 800m in the opening leg of the Asian Grand Prix meet in the Chinese city of Jiaxiang on 22 May 2011. Sajeesh Joseph, the second Indian in the race, finished fifth in 1:51.62. 

India's second medal came in women's discus throw where Seema Antil clinched bronze with a throw of 49.77m.



Indian men's recurve team bag silver in Archery World Cup. Indian men's recurve team settled for a silver after going down to the US in the final of the Archery World Cup Stage I in Porec, Croatia.



Five-time World champion M.C.Mary Kom (48kg) beat Asian champion Kim Myong Sim of North Korea 4-3 in the final of the Asian Cup Women's Boxing tournament in Haikou, China.



India bag 10 gold and a silver in South Asia Judo tourney

Indian judokas swept the South Asia Judo Championships, finishing with 10 gold and a silver, held in Islamabad on May 11-12.

The Gold medal winners: Harpreet Singh (below 66 Kg), Shanitimala Dev (below 48 Kg), Ramashrey Yadav (below 73 Kg), N Gomti Chanu (below 52 Kg), Yashpal Solanki (below 90 Kg), A Anita Chanu (below 57 Kg), Vikram Solanki (below 100 Kg), Garima Chaudhary (below 63 Kg), Jitender Pal (above 100 Kg), Ch Jina Devi (below 70 Kg).

Silver medal winner: Virender Singh (below 81 Kg).



Star Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal was defeated by world number three Xin Wang of China in the finals to finish runner-up in the Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton tournament in Kuala Lumpur.



Australia wins Azlan Shah Cup for sixth time. Australia have won the Sultan Azlan Shah hockey tournament for the sixth time. In the final at Ipoh in Malaysia, the World Champions defeated Asian champions Pakistan by a narrow margin of three goals to two.



Novak Djokovic won the third edition of Serbia Open on 1 May 2011. The ATP World Tour 250 event top seed, Djokovic captured his fifth title in 2011, and 23rd in his career when he defeated Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 7-6(4), 6-2. 

The victory marked his second victory at his hometown tournament. Djokovic had also won the inaugural Serbia Open in 2009.Novak won every tournament he’s entered in 2011: the Australian Open, Dubai, Indian Wells, Miami and now Belgrade.
