AK Antony inaugurated the first bi-annual IAF Commander’s Conference for 2012

The Defence Minister, Shri AK Antony inaugurated the first bi-annual IAF Commander’s Conference for 2012 at Air Headquaters (Vayu Bhawan) in New Delhi.

On arrival, Shri AK Antony was introduced to the Air Force Commanders and the Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) at Air Headquaters by Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne, Chief of the Air Staff.

Welcoming the Commanders, the Air Chief said, “I am aware of the challenges each one of you is facing, in your respective Area of Responsibility (AOR) and also the good work which your Commands are doing in these testing times. Please keep up the good work. In all the forums where I have had the chance to interact with our air warriors, including visits to your Command, I have shared my vision for the IAF. To my mind we need to focus on maintaining high operational readiness, empower our ‘people’ – our biggest resource and persevere in our capability enhancement programmes.”

“IAF’s vision statement – ‘People First Mission Always’ – aims at inculcating a culture where each one of us pays attention to looking after the needs and requirements of people placed below us. Our air warriors in the fields must get full support to accomplish their assigned tasks”, he further added.

“Our operations, rest on three pillars – Operational capability, Operational Infrastructure and Security of these operational assets. An operational mindset must dictate all our actions and the primacy of operations in all our actions must be understood by each and every air warrior as well as be demonstrated in our daily work. The IAF is poised for a strategic transformation; how we would be a decade down the line, will depend on how we perform now”, he said, as he concluded his address.

The Conference spanning four days would focus on – ‘Optimisation of Weapons’ and would have the Commanders carry out review on issues relating to Operations, Infrastructure development and Capability Enhancement, Personnel, Training, Aviation Safety, Maintenance and Administration. The Conference provides a forum for the Commanders to get together and take stock of the progress, identify course corrections and chart out a future roadmap for the IAF.

The Conference is also scheduled to have General V K Singh, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) and Shri Ranjan Mathai, Foreign Secretary besides other distinguished guests to interact with the Commanders.
