The Special Session of the Lok Sabha to mark its 60th anniversary began with the playing of the National Anthem.





Maldivian President Dr. Mohammed Waheed met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in New Delhi.

Dr. Waheed, who is in the country on a five-day official visit at the invitation of the Indian Prime Minister, reportedly discussed the present situation in Maldives with him.

This is the Maldivian President's first meetings with the Indian government after an extraordinary turn of events put him at the helm of affairs in the island nation. Dr. Waheed, who assumed the office of the President of the Republic of Maldives in February 2012, is also scheduled to visit Mumbai during his visit.

Indian Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi beat Oliver Barbosa of Philippines in the Asian individual chess championship in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam. India's National women's champion Mary Ann Gomes beat Irine Sukandar Kharisma of Indonesia in the women's championship.

In the seventh round Negi made mince meat of higher-ranked Liren Ding of China and then in the eighth round Barbosa had no answers. Mary Ann Gomes also had a perfect seventh round when she beat top seed Zhao Xue of China and then in eighth, she trounced Irine.

Besides, in the eighth round, Padmini Rout also defeated Nguyen Thi Thanh An and Eesha Karavade drew with Wang Jue.
