Dubai has added yet another landmark - the World’ tallest residential building. Guiness Book Of Records has enlisted 107 storey Princess Towers in Jumeriah, Dubai as the world’s tallest residential building.

Dubai has the distinction of Burj Khalifa, the 2720 ft high tallest structure in the world. Now it has another one, the world’s tallest residential building , the Princess Towers. The 1356 ft. high tower, topped with a crown, is located in Dubai Marina, a man-made canal overlooking the Gulf. It has 107 floors with six basements, one ground floor, 100 above ground levels and eight retail stores.

The world’s tallest residential building occupies an area of 37,410 square feet and has 763 luxury apartments. The mankind’s aspiration to scale new heights continues.





The ASEAN Regional Forum Senior Officials meeting began in Cambodia, discussing ways to enhance cooperation on disaster relief, maritime security, non- proliferation and disarmament, and anti-terrorism and crimes. The one-day meeting, attended by senior officials from 28 countries, was chaired by Kao Kim Hourn, secretary of state at Cambodia's foreign ministry.

The participating countries included the ASEAN member states, China, Japan, India, Russia, South Korea, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the United States.

Kao Kim Hourn said the meeting was preparatory for the 19th ASEAN Regional Forum Ministerial meeting on July 13 in Phnom Penh.

A high-powered ministerial panel headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will decide on the minimum price to be fixed for auction of spectrum. 

Telecom Secretary R Chandrashekhar said that the Telecom Commission TC, which met for the second time deliberated on the base price suggested by the sector regulator TRAI but decided to leave it to the Empowered Group of Ministers EGoM to decide on auction price for the airwaves.

The Telecom Secretary said DoT will also make certain analysis which will be presented before Empowered Group of Ministers on telecom.





The Lt.Gen J.P. Nehra Adjutant general, army headquarters, inaugurated a housing project by unveiling the plaque at the project site in Thazhambur at the Old Mahabalipuram road near Chennai.

The project which will be the largest one in Chennai will have a built up residential area in one million sq ft facing the Bay of Bengal.

With a mission to provide structurally sound economically viable and functionally efficient dwelling units for serving and retired army personnel and their families on a no profit no loss basis, the Army welfare housing project will implement the scheme.

There will be a 30 thousand sq ft club house also in the campus. The dwelling units would be built with modern amenities. The homes will be intricately designed with ample greenery in accordance with the location’s compulsory green norms.




Concerned over decline in child sex ratio, the National Advisory Council, NAC has come out with a blueprint for a new national policy to tackle the issue. It includes tougher laws to prevent misuse of medical technology for sex selection. The NAC, chaired by Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, identified prenatal sex selection as the biggest reason for the decline in child sex ratio and sought strengthening of the current legal regime to prevent misuse of medical technology for sex selection. 

The panel wanted the Government to develop a legislative framework for the future with a focus on strengthening and effective implementation of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (prohibition of sex selection) Act. It also wanted the Government to consider the implications from the perspective of sex selection, of new legislation such as the Draft Assisted Reproductive Technologies (Regulation) Bill, 2010.
