  • Shah Rukh Khan receives Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum
    Shah Rukh Khan: Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan received the prestigious Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum in Davos for raising awareness about human rights issues and his work for acid attacks victims. 

    Shah Rukh, one of Hindi cinema's most globally recognized faces, was felicitated as he is a founder of a non-profit foundation, which provides support to female victims of acid attacks and major burn injuries through medical treatment, legal aid, vocational training, rehabilitation and livelihood support. 

    The Crystal Award is given by the WEF to artists who make a positive change in society. The awards were presented at a ceremony in the village of Davos in the Swiss Alps where some of the world's top policymakers and executives have gathered for the annual meeting. 

  • Padma Awards
    Padma Awards, one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, have been announced. The President approved the Awards, for 85 individuals, which includes 3 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan and 73 Padma Shri. 

    Fourteen of the awardees are women and 3 persons have been awarded posthumously. Two duo case award have been given. In a duo case, the award is counted as one. Prominent citizens from each of the 10 ASEAN member countries are among the 16 foreigners named for the Award. 

    The second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan has been conferred upon, Well-known classical singer Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, ace music composer Ilaiyaraaja and Litterateur P Parameswaran. 

    In sports personalities, former India cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and multiple world champion cueist Pankaj Advani have been conferred with the third-highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan. 

    Besides the duo, 2017 World Weightlifting Champion Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and former Asian Games gold medallist tennis player Somdev Devvarman have been conferred with the Padma Shri. 

  • Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowships 2016
    President Ram Nath Kovind on 17th January coffered Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowships and Awards for 2016 on an eminent group of musicians, dancers, and theatre artists. This year, four eminent artists and scholars in performing arts were conferred Fellowships of the Akademi and 43 artists received the Akademi Awards. 

    The function was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. Recipients of Fellowships (Akademi Ratnas) are Arvind Parikh, R Vedavalli, Ram Gopal Bajaj and Sunil Kothari. 

    The Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowships (Akademi Ratna) and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards (Akademi Puraskar) are national honours bestowed by the government on performing artists as well as teachers and scholars in the field of performing arts.

  • JNPT wins “Samudra Manthan - Caring Organisation of the Year” award
    India’s Premier Container Port, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust has won the “Samudra Manthan - Caring Organisation of the Year” award. The award instituted by Bhandarkar Shipping aims to fuel healthy competition in the maritime sector. 

    Besides achieving operational excellence, JNPT provides excellent facilities to their staff like medical insurance, residential township with school, transport service, canteens, rest rooms, recreation, sports activities and regular training programs on various key topics.
