  • British cyclist Chris Froome wins Tour de France 4th timeBritish cyclist Chris Froome won his third consecutive and fourth overall Tour de France title in Paeis on Sunday

    The 3540km 23 days long Grand Tour featured a total of 198 riders this year. 
  • India finishes with 5 medals in world Para Athletics ChampionshipThe Indian contigent at the World Para Athletics Championship ended its campaign with 5 medals in London. 

    India won 5 medals including a gold, two silver and two bronze finishing at 32nd place. 
  • HS Pranoy beats P Kashyap to lift 3rd US Open Grand Prix Gold Tournament TitleIn its all India final of US Open, HS Pranoy defeated P Kashyap to lift his 3rd US Open Grand Prix Gold Tournament. 

    Interestingly, this was third all-India final this year (2018) after Singapore Open and Sayed Modi International Badminton Championships. 
  • Djokovic clinched his 4th Wimbledon title, 13th Grand SlamEx-world number one Novak Djokovic defeated Kevin Anderson to clinch his fourth men’s singles Wimbledon title and overall 13th Grand Slam. 

    Djokovic became the fourth player after Roger Federer (8), Pete Sampras (7) and Bj√∂rn Borg (5) to win Wimbledon men's title four or more times in Open Era. 
  • France won FIFA World Cup France defeated first-time finalists Croatia 4-2 in 2018 FIFA World Cup final, held in Moscow, Russia. 

    France became the first team since Brazil in 1970 to score four goals in a World Cup final. 

    Previously, France won FIFA World Cup in 1998. 

    Award Winners of FIFA World Cup 2018 are:- 
    • Golden Boot award - England captain Harry Kane
    • Golden Ball award - Croatia's Luka Modric
    • Golden Glove award - Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois
    • Tournament's best young player - KylianMbappe (19-year-old, France)

  • Indian goalkeeper PR Sreejesh to Lead Indian Hockey Team at Asian Games 2018Indian goalkeeper PR Sreejesh will lead the 18-member Indian men's hockey squad while Chinglensana Singh Kangujam will serve as his deputy in the 18th Asian Games, which will begin in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia in August 2018. 
  • Dipa Karmakar Clinches Gold Medal at Gymnastics World CupIndia’s premier gymnast Dipa Karmakar clinched a gold medal in the vault event of FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup at Mersin in Turkey. 

    The 24-year-old from Tripura, DipaKarmakar scored 14.150 to win gold. This is Dipa’s first medal in a World Challenge Cup. She had topped the qualification also with a score of 13.400.
  • Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia won historic 12th Malaysia Open Badminton titleMalaysian Lee Chong Wei beat Japanese shuttler Kento Momota 21-17, 23-21 on 1st June to win the Malaysia Open title for a historic 12th time., 

    In the women's singles final, Tai Tzu Ying from Taiwan won against China's He Bingjiao to win the title. 
  • Union Home Minister felicitates medal winners of 17th World Police & Fire Games-2017The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh felicitated the medal winners of the 17th World Police & Fire Games held at Los Angeles, California, USA from August 7-16, 2017. He was the chief guest in the function organized by All India Police Sports Control Board (AIPSCB) to felicitate the medal winners, in New Delhi. 

    The 101-member Indian Police contingent won 321 medals from the 17th World Police & Fire Games. The contingent bagged 151 Gold, 99 Silver and 71 Bronze medals in the seven events they participated in the Games. 
  • Para-athlete Yogesh Kathuniya sets world record in discus throwIndia's para-athlete Yogesh Kathuniya smashed the world record in the men's discus F36 while winning gold in the Para-Athletics Grand Prix in Berlin. 

    Kathuniya threw 45.18m, which is more than two metres than the earlier world record of 42.96m set by China's Cuiqing Li last year. 
  • Karthikeyan and Tania are Commonwealth Chess ChampionsP. Karthikeyan beat former National champion G. Akash and became the Commonwealth chess champion 2018 held in New Delhi. The ladies title went to Tania Sachdev who won against Shantanu Bhambure. 
  • Ajai Raj Singh won javelin gold in Youth Olympic GamesAjai Raj Singh won the boys javelin gold with a personal best of 76.13m while Maharashtra’s Tai Hiraman Bamhane took the girls’ 1,500m silver on the opening day of the Youth Olympic Games’ Asian area qualification athletics meet in Bangkok on 4th July. 
  • Rahul Dravid, Ricky Ponting inducted into ICC Hall Of FameFormer captains Rahul Dravid of India, Ricky Ponting of Australia and retired England woman wicketkeeper-batter Claire Taylor were inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. 

    Rahul Dravid became only the fifth player from India to be named in the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame while Ponting is the 25th from Australia to do so. 

    Taylor is the seventh woman overall and the third woman player from England to be named in the list. 

    Dravid aggregated 13,288 runs in 164 Tests with 36 centuries and 10,889 runs in 344 ODIs with 12 centuries, and was in 2004 named as the ICC Cricketer of the Year as well as the ICC Test Player of the Year. 

    Ponting too ended his career in 2012, with 13,378 runs in 168 Tests with 41 centuries and 13,704 runs in 325 ODIs with 30 centuries. 
  • India’s Bajrang Punia claims gold medal at Tbilisi Grand Prix, Deepak wins bronzeIndian wrestler BajrangPunia won the gold medal at Tbilisi Grand Prix in Georgia with a 9-3 win over Iran’s Mehran Akbar Nasiriafrachali in the 65kg category final. 

    Deepak Punia won the bronze medal in the 86kg category by defeating Turkey’s Osman Gocen 5-3.
