  • IIFA Awards 2018 - Tumhari Sulu best film, Irrfan Khan best actor
    Vidya Balan-starrer "Tumhari Sulu", about a housewife who lands a job as a radio jockey, won the Best Picture Award at the International Indian Film Academy Awards 2018 in Bangkok. 

    Irfan Khan was adjudged the Best Actor for his role of a father trying to get his child admitted in a posh English medium school in Delhi in the film "Hindi Medium". 

    Sridevi was posthumously awarded the Best Female Actor for "Mom" and her husband, Boney Kapoor, received the trophy for her. The Best Director trophy was won by Saket Chowdhary for his film "Hindi Medium". 

    Newton", which was India's official entry to Oscars this year, won the award for Best Story for director Masurkar. 

    Arijit Singh was announced as the Best Playback Singer (Male) for the song "Hawayein" from "Jab Harry Met Sejal", while Meghna Mishra won the Best Playback Singer (Female) Award for the track "Main Kaun Hoon" from "Secret Superstar". 

    The Best Music Direction Award went to Amaal Mallik, Tanishk Bagchi and Akhil Sachdeva for their work on "Badrinath Ki Dulhania." Anupam Kher, who has over 500 films to his credit, was honoured with the Outstanding Achievement Award at the ceremony. 

    The award ceremony, held at Bangkok's Siam Niramit theatre, was hosted by director Karan Johar and actor Riteish Deshmukh. 

  • Madhya Pradesh to be awarded for reducing maternal mortality
    Madhya Pradesh will be awarded for reducing maternal mortality under Prime Minister's Safe Motherhood Campaign. The award ceremony will be held in New Delhi. 

    The Prime Minister’s Safe Motherhood Campaign has been launched to ensure quality care of over 3 crore pregnant women of the country before delivery. 

    Madhya Pradesh has been registered an unprecedented 48-digit decline in maternal deaths as per the report of the Registrar General of India from 2014 to 2016. 

    The maternal mortality rate was 221 in the year 2011-13, which has now dropped down further to just 173. There has been a significant decline of 22% in the last three years in the state. 

    The results of the various awareness programmes like institutional delivery, ANM, Anganwadi workers, knock-out campaigns etc. have now started showing fruitful result. State government official claimed that this decline will be more noticeable in the coming years. 

  • Artist Anjolie Ela Menon conferred the Kalidas Award
    Noted artist Anjolie Ela Menon, 78 on 30th June received the National Kalidas Samman in Delhi for visual arts from the Madhya Pradesh government. 

    The award was conferred in recognition of her insightful and sensitive portrayal of the identity and spirit of women through her meaningful paintings in a variety of media. 

    With her first solo exhibition being held in Delhi in 1958, Menon is counted among India’s most accomplished artists and is the recipient of numerous national and international awards including the Padma Shri. She recently received a doctorate from Rabindra Bharati University.

  • Arunachal Pradesh bagged the 'SKOCH Order-of Merit' Award for Vaccination campaign
    Arunachal Pradesh bagged the 'SKOCH Order-of Merit' Award for the Measles-Rubella Vaccination campaign and also for the Chief Minister's Free Cancer Chemotherapy Scheme being implemented in the state. The award was conferred to the state at the 52nd SKOCH Summit held in New Delhi. Skoch Group is a think-tank dealing with socio-economic issues with a focus on inclusive growth since 1997. 

  • Bindeshwar Pathak was honoured with Japan's prestigious Nikkei Asia Prize
    Noted social reformer and founder of Sulabh International, Bindeshwar Pathak, was honoured with Japan's prestigious Nikkei Asia Prize. The award was given under Culture and Community category for his significant work in tackling poor hygiene and discrimination. 

    Launched in 1996, the award honours people in Asia who have made significant contributions in one of the three areas of regional growth; science, technology & innovation and culture & community. The awards were created and presented by Nikkei Inc, one of the largest media corporations in Japan.
