  • Yusuf Hamied receives UK Royal Society Honour. Prominent scientist and businessman Yusuf Hamied was honored in the 2019 list of new fellows of the UK's Royal Society. He is Chairman of pharmaceutical major Cipla. The Royal Society is an independent scientific academy of the UK and the Commonwealth, dedicated to promoting excellence in science.



  • Benny Antony, Joint Managing Director, Arjuna Natural Ltd, has been conferred with the National Intellectual Property Award for 2019 in the category of Top Individual for Patents and Commercialization. Along with the National IP Award, the Intellectual Property Office India and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) also conferred the ‘WIPO Medal for Inventors’ to Antony.



  • Jhulan Goswami, world's leading wicket-taker in women's one-day internationals, was awarded the Best Sportsperson' award by the Calcutta Sports Journalists' Club.

    Sambaran Banerjee and former India winger Sukumar Samajpati won the Lifetime Achievement awards.

    Promising Sportsperson of the Year was given to Neelash Saha.

    Best footballer was given to Pritam Kotal.



  • West Bengal government's 'Utkarsh Bangla' scheme was awarded the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) award of the United Nations. Out of 1062 nominations in 18 categories from all over the world, #UtkarshBangla emerged No 1 in the Capacity Building category. The WB government had received another UN award in 2017 for its 'Kanyashree' project. Two schemes of the West Bengal government for skill development and distribution of bicycles to students have won the prestigious World Summit on the Information Society awards of the United Nations. The 2 schemes are the Utkarsh Bangla and Sabooj Sathi projects for youngsters.



  • Author Rana Dasgupta was awarded the Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize 2019 for his 2010 novel Solo. It is the second edition of the Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize.

    The Prize aims to revive poetry and books that can change lives. The prize consists of an amount of $10,000, a Tagore statue and a certificate for contribution to literature will be given to the awardee.



  • Digital Sukoon founder, Sudhanshu Kumar was honored with the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Nobel Award by International Human Rights Council on 10 April 2019. Digital Sukoon received the Best Digital Agency of the Year 2019. Digital Sukoon provides a comprehensive 360-degree solution to their clients for the promotional needs by creating innovative campaigns and optimum usage of technology tools.



  • The UNESCO/Guillermo Cano Press Freedom Prize 2019 has been awarded to Reuters reporters Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo. The prize carries a reward of $25,000 Prize. It recognizes the exceptional courage in reporting on alleged human rights violations in Myanmar's state of Rakhine. The award was established in 1997 and named after Guillermo Cano Isaza.



  • Datamatics Global Services Ltd. (DGSL) won IMC Digital Technology Awards 2018 under the Excellence in Emerging Technology category for TruBot, its Robotic Process Automation product and TruAI, its AI platform. The award ceremony was held on 12th April 2019 at St Regis, Mumbai. The IMC Awards recognize achievements across all areas of the IT industry.



  • Aretha Franklin received the Pulitzer Prize Special Citation honor. She became the first individual woman to earn a special citation prize since the honor was first awarded in 1930.



  • NASA awarded 3 teams from India as part of its annual Human Exploration Rover Challenge. The team from KIET Group of Institutions, Uttar Pradesh, won the AIAA Neil Armstrong Best Design Award.
    The Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management and Engineering, Mumbai, Maharashtra, won the Frank Joe Sexton Memorial Pit Crew Award.
    A team from LPU, Punjab, won the STEM Engagement Award.



  • A Delhi Police officer has been awarded 'Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Award' for his book 'Samvidhan Kavya'. Bureau of Police Research and Development gave the award to Special Commissioner of Police (Operations) Sunil Kumar Gautam for 2018-19. The book presents the provisions of the Constitution in a simple and poetic form.



  • Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) bagged the prestigious 'AIMA Managing India Award 2019 for outstanding PSU of the year. The award was presented by former President Pranab Mukherjee to Sanjiv Singh, Chairman, Indian Oil. The AIMA awards declared under 11 categories, shortlisted 11 eminent enterprises and personalities of the country for their contribution to nation-building.



  • Vice President Venkaiah Naidu conferred President’s Certificate of Honour and Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman Awards at New Delhi. The award of the Certificate of Honour was introduced in the year 1958 to honour the scholars of Sanskrit, Arabic and Persian Languages. Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman was introduced in the year 2002.



  • India's education tech startup 'Dost Education' bagged a $25,000 tech prize along with 2 other winners from Tanzania and Egypt. The Next Billion Edtech Prize 2019 recognizes the most innovative technology destined to have a radical impact on education in low income. Dost was awarded for its ability to empower parents to take charge of their child's early education.



  • The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) was awarded the distinction of 'Public Water Agency of the Year'. It was awarded by the Global Water Intelligence at the Global Water Summit. The Global Water Awards are presented at the Global Water Summit, the major business conference for the water industry worldwide.



  • The Chairman and Managing Director of the General Insurance Corporation (GIC) of India, Alice G Vaidyan was awarded the Freedom of the City of London. She was awarded in recognition of her work to promote insurance ties between India and the UK.



  • Telugu poet K Siva Reddy has been selected for the prestigious Saraswati Samman, 2018 for his collection of poetry titled Pakkaki Ottigilite. The award carries a cash prize of 15 lakh rupees, a citation, and a plaque. The award, instituted by the KK Birla Foundation in 1991, is given annually for an outstanding literary work written in any Indian language, published during the last 10 years.
