  • Hero MotoCorp announced the appointment of Yerry Mina, the popular Colombian professional footballer, as its new Brand Ambassador. Mina is one of the promising young footballers and delivered impressive performances for the Colombian national football team during 2018 FIFA World Cup. In 2016, Hero MotoCorp set up its first international facility at Villa Rica in Colombia.


  • Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Deputy Governor Viral Acharya has quit six months before the scheduled end of his term to return to New York University Stern School of Business (NYU stern) in August as CV Starr Professor of Economics. Acharya had joined RBI on January 23, 2017. There was speculation that he will follow the former Governor's Urjit Patel footsteps and leave the central bank soon after the latter resigned on December 10, 2018.

    Currently, Acharya is in charge of the Financial Stability Unit, Monetary Policy Department, Department of Economic and Policy Research, Financial Markets Operation Department, Financial Market Regulation Department, among others at the RBI.


  • Slovakia, anti-corruption campaigner Zuzana Caputova was sworn in as country's first female president. Caputova said, she did not come to rule but to serve the nation.


  • Denmark’s Inger Andersen took charge as the new Executive Director (ED) of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). She will hold the designation for period of 4-years. Inger is a Danish economist and environmentalist with over 30 years of experience in international development economics, environmental sustainability and policy-making. Now as ED of UNEP she brings to the role a passion for conservation and sustainable development.


  • Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed has been appointed as Pakistan’s Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (DG-ISI), a powerful spy agency. He assumed his office on 17th June 2019. The Pakistan Army also announced a number of changes to postings of its top generals.


  • Shrimati C. Das, an academician and a translator from Hubballi, has been appointed Director of Gurudev Tagore Indian Cultural Centre in Mexico. The appointment of Ms. Das is for three years with the diplomatic rank of First Secretary.


  • The government has cleared the appointments of Justice RS Chauhan as Chief Justice of the Telangana high court and Justice V Ramasubramanium as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh high court.


  • Senior bureaucrat Shefali Juneja was appointed as India's representative in the Council of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Montreal, Canada, an UN body. She has been appointed to the post for a period of three years.


  • Abhinav Bindra was appointed as an independent person by the World Archery to sort out the ongoing mess in the national federation (AAI). The world body de-listed the Archery Association of India for violating the constitution byunanimously electing two parallel bodies in Chandigarh and New Delhi. He will be part of the selection panel, also consisting of IOA secretary general Rajeev Mehta.


  • Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thawarchand Gehlot has been appointed as the leader of Rajya Sabha. Mr Gehlot is a Rajya Sabha member representing Madhya Pradesh.


  • China has appointed veteran diplomat Sun Weidong as its new envoy to India. Mr Sun, who also served as the ambassador to Pakistan, is currently the Director General of the Policy and Planning Department of the Foreign Ministry.


  • Renowned scientist and cyclone warning specialist Mrutyunjay Mohapatra was appointed as the chief of India Meteorological Department (IMD) on 4 June 2019. Mr Mohapatra leads the Cyclone Warning Division of the IMD. The IMD is responsible for weather and climate-related forecasts in the country. It is also mandated to issue warning to people about severe weather phenomenon like cyclones.


  • Flight Lt Mohana Singh has become the first woman fighter pilot to fly by day on a Hawk advanced jet aircraft. Her training involved flying both air-to-air combat and air-to-ground missions.
    Flight Lt Bhawana Kanth became the first daytime woman fighter pilot to fly a MiG-21 Bison.


  • Nayib Bukele is elected as the new president of El Salvador. The 37 -year-old former mayor of San Salvador pledged to cure the Central American country that he described as a "sick child" following years of violence and migration that has strained relations with the United States.


  • Indian tycoon Yusuff Ali gets first Gold Card in UAE. The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship of the United Arab Emirates announced that it had issued its first gold residence card to Indian business leader Yusuff Ali MA, the chairman of LuLu Group International. Yusuff Ali was awarded the query gold card here by Brigadier Saeed Salem Al Shamsi, the executive director of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs.


  • Forbes magazine named Rihanna as the worlds richest female musician. Forbes magazine has named Rihanna as the world’s richest female musician. Rihanna's Fenty Beauty brand business endeavors have officially made her the richest female musician in the world. Her worth is estimated at $600m (£472m) which includes revenues made from her fashion and beauty lines in addition to those from her music career.


  • IT major Wipro Ltd announced that its founder Azim H Premji would retire as executive chairman and MD of the company by the end of July. Azim Premji is a recipient of Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan awards. He's going to hand over reins of the firm to his son Rishad.


  • Justice Dhirubhai Naranbhai Patel sworn in as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.


  • State Health Department of Goa announced the appointment of Panaji-based, Namrata Menon, Yoga Instructor, and fitness expert, as brand ambassador to promote yoga in Goa. She is appointed to promote the ancient system of physical and mental practices to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga so that people follow it on a daily basis.


  • Anita Bhatia has been appointed as the Assistant Secretary-General for resource management, sustainability and partnerships and Deputy Executive Director of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women)She is a veteran of strategic partnerships, resource mobilization, and management.


  • Ajit Doval reappointed National Security Advisor with Cabinet rank. The government reappointed retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Ajit Doval as National Security Adviser, according him a Cabinet rank. He becomes the first NSA to get Cabinet status in the table of precedence.


  • Shri Arjun Munda assumed charge as the Union Minister of Tribal Affairs. He served as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand form 2003-2006. He was the leader of opposition in Jharkhand from 2006-2008. He was elected to 15th Lok Sabha in 2009 but resigned on 26 February 2011. Smt. Renuka Singh, the new Minister of State for Tribal Affairs also assumed charge.


  • Rakesh Makhija appointed as chairman of Axis Bank. Rakesh Makhija, independent director was appointed as the non-executive (part-time) chairman of the bank, for a period of 3 years, with effect from July 18, 2019, up to July 17, 2022. Rakesh Makhija has held a number of top management positions within the SKF Group.
