  • India finishes second in medal tally at Asian Youth Championships. In Asian Youth Athletics Championships in Hong Kong, boy’s medley relay team won a gold medal for India on the final day to help Indian youth team finish second in the overall medals tally with a total of 26 medals including eight gold, nine silver and nine bronze medals.

    China topped the overall medals tally with 31 medals that included 12 gold, 11 silver and eight bronze medals and Japan finished third with 20 medals that included 6 Gold, 8 Silver and 6 bronze.


  • Tokyo 2020 Olympics torch unveiled. Organizers of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on 20 March 2019 unveiled a cherry-blossom shaped torch for the Games as the city prepares for the famed flower season to begin in coming days. The top part of the torch is shaped in the traditional emblem of the sakura, or cherry blossom using the same cutting-edge technology as in production of Japan's bullet trains, the organizers said. The shiny rose-gold torch, which is 71 centimeters (28 inches) long and weighs 1.2 kilograms (2 pounds 10 ounces), uses aluminium construction waste from temporary housing built for victims of the 2011 quake and tsunami.

    Fukushima was chosen as the starting point for the Olympic torch relay. The passing of the flame is scheduled to start on March 26, 2020, and the torch will head south to the sub-tropical island of Okinawa -- the starting point for the 1964 Tokyo Games relay -- before returning north and arriving in the Japanese capital on July 10. Japan has dubbed the 2020 Games the "Reconstruction Olympics" and wants to showcase recovery in regions devastated by the disaster.


  • India bag 368 medals at Special Olympics World Games. India has bagged 368 medals 85 Gold, 154 Silver and 129 Bronze at Special Olympic Games in Abu Dhabi. The next Special Olympic Games are set to take place in Sweden in 2021.


  • In football, India has clinched the SAFF Women's Championship for the fifth time in a row, defeating hosts Nepal 3-1 in the final at Biratnagar. In the first half, Dalmia Chhibber of India scored the first goal of the match which was equalled by Nepal's Sabitra Bhandari at the 33rd minute.

    In the second half, Grace Dengmei scored the second goal at 63rd minute and Anju Tamang scored third and decisive goal in the 76th minute. This was India's 23rd straight victory in the championship since its inception in 2010.


  • India will host the Under-17 Women's Football World Cup in 2020. This was announced by the President of International Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino after the council meeting in Miami, USA on 15 March 2019 night.

    Infantino said FIFA is delighted to announce that India has been confirmed as the host of the Women's World Cup. This will be the second FIFA tournament India will be hosting, after the U-17 Men's World Cup in 2017.


  • AII India’s star wrestler Bajrang Punia has won a gold medal in 65 kilogram freestyle in Bulgaria. The tournament, Dan Kolov-Nikola Petrov was held in Ruse.


  • The ICC reappointed former team India captain Anil Kumble as the chairman of ICC’s cricket committee during its quarterly meet in Dubai. Kumble who has been the chairman of the committee since 2012, will be serving for a final 3 year term. Kumble has replaced former Windies captain Clive Lloyd in 2012.
