  • India pays homage to the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 72nd death anniversary on 30th January 2020. It was on this day in 1948, Mahatma Gandhi fell to the bullet of his assassin. The day is also observed as Martyrs Day.


  • World Hindi Day is celebrated every year on January 10. Its objective is to create a suitable environment for the promotion of Hindi worldwide and to present Hindi as the prevalent language of the world. The Indian Embassies located in other countries outside India celebrates World Hindi Day by organizing special programs. Various government and non-government institutions organise unique programs for the promotion of Hindi. The first World Hindi Conference was held in Nagpur on January 10, 1975, where 122 delegates from 30 countries participated in the program. Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh announced to celebrate World Hindi Day on January 10 every year in 2006. 

    'National Hindi Day' is celebrated on September 14 every year. The Constituent Assembly gave Hindi the status of official language on September 14, 1949, since then Hindi Day is celebrated on September14. The first Prime Minister of the country, Jawaharlal Nehru, decided to celebrate Hindi Day on September 14. There were many writers like Kaka Kalelkar, Maithili Sharan Gupta, Hazari Prasad Dwivedi, Seth Govindadas made important contributions to make Hindi a national language.


  • India is celebrating 72nd Army Day on January 15, 2020. Mr Modi said, the Indian Army is the pride of Mother India. This day is celebrated every year on this day because Field Marshal KM Cariappa took command of the Indian Army from General Francis Butcher on the same day in 1949. The Indian Army was formed in 1776 by the East India Company in Kolkata. The Indian Army is among the world's three largest armies including China and the United States. Indian Army is deployed on the Siachen Glacier which is five thousand meters above sea level. It is the highest battlefield in the world. The motto of the Indian Army is 'Service Before Self'.


  • The nation is celebrating birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on January 12, 2020. Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary is also celebrated as National Youth Day in the country.


  • National Girl Child Day will be celebrated on 24 January in Madhya Pradesh on the theme of “Aware girl child-able Madhya Pradesh" (Jagruk Balika-Samarth Madhya Pradesh) under the "Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao" scheme. During this, health of girls will be examined. Gender champions at the local level will also be selected. "The aim of this celebration is to create awareness in the society about the rights of daughters and to provide new opportunities to the daughters for their social and financial development. Apart from Girl child day, Women and Child Development Department will also celebrate National Girl Child Week from January 24 to 30. During the week, many important programmes like "Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao" signature campaign, plantation and name plate drive in the names of daughters, awareness campaign on women's rights and mass oaths for girl child protection will be administered. 

    The Ministry of Women and Child Development announced to set up ten Chairs in different fields with an aim to carry out research activities to encourage women. The initiative called the Establishment of Chairs in the Universities in the name of eminent women is being launched with the assistance of the University Grants Commission, UGC. The main objective is to inspire women to pursue higher education and to achieve excellence in their area of work. This initiative of highlighting and celebrating women achievers of the country will motivate young girls and women towards higher studies.


  • The 10th National Voters’ Day has been celebrated on 25th January. It was celebrated at over ten lakh locations across the country including Polling Stations, District and State headquarters. The theme this year is ‘Electoral Literacy for Stronger Democracy'. It sets the tone for year-long activities focusing on voter education and renewal of citizens’ faith in the electoral process. The Day is celebrated since 2011 to mark the Foundation day of Election Commission of India, which was established on 25th January 1950.


  • India celebrated the 71st Republic Day on January 26, 2020 with a grand military parade and exhibition of its history, cultural diversity and strategic weaponry at the Rajpath in the National Capital, New Delhi. President Ram Nath Kovind unfurled the tricolour and took the salute of the parade. President of Brazil Jair Messias Bolsonaro was the Chief Guest at the Parade this year.


  • The National immunization day was observed on January 19th 2020. With an aim to maintain the 'NO POLIO' status, a nationwide programme to administer polio drops to children below 5 years was organized throughout the country.


  • The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah released the book 'Karmyodha Granth', written on the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on January 07, 2020. He said that Narendra Modi is a sensitive man, a strict administrator and a fearless commander and has always worked on the mantra of 'Raja Prathamo Sevak'.
