February 2020 Appointments

  • Malaysian King has appointed Muhyiddin Yassin as the new Prime Minister of Malaysia.

  • Indian-origin Suella Braverman has been appointed as the UK's new Attorney General. The appointment comes in British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's reshuffled Cabinet in February 2020. Braverman will involve reviewing the work of the law officers' departments. She will oversee the independent prosecuting authorities, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and the Serious Fraud Office.

  • Jawed Ashraf has been appointed as India's next Ambassador to France on 26 February.

  • Industrialist Ratan Tata is appointed as the chairman of the advisory council of Mumbai University.

  • Australia has appointed former New South Wales Premier Barry O'Farrell as the next high commissioner to India. Mr O'Farrell will succeed Harinder Sidhu who has been in the office since 2016.

  • Government of India appointed Barun Mitra as Secretary, Department of Justice in the Ministry of Law and Justice on on 11th February, 2020.

  • Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy's son-in-lawRishi Sunak has been appointed as UK's Finance Minister. Indian origin Members of Parliament, the 47-year-old Priti Patel has been appointed as the Home Minister.

  • The government on 13 February, 2020 appointed the 1988 batch IAS officer of Nagaland Cadre Rajiv Bansal as the Chairman and Managing Director of Air India.

  • Britain appointed Karen Pierce as the next ambassador to United States.

  • Gopal Baglay has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. He will replace Taranjit Sandhu.

  • Lieutenant General YK Joshi took over as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Northern Command at Udhampur on 1st February 2020. Gen Joshi commanded 13 JAK RIF in Operation VIJAY and PARAKRAM. Nicknamed 'Joe', he also displayed outstanding leadership during the Kargil war.
