  • Balbir Singh Kullar, former Indian hockey player and Olympic Bronze medalist passed away on February 28, 2020.



  • Egypt's former President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak, who ruled the country for 30 years, died on February 25, 2020. He was 91. A former air force chief, Mubarak became Vice President of Egypt on 14 October 1981, and just eight days later, was sworn in as the President after Islamist militants assassinated his predecessor Anwar Sadat during a military parade.



  • Adline Castelino won the LIVA Miss Diva Universe 2020 title. She was crowned by Vartika Singh, Miss Diva Universe 2019, at an event held on Mumbai.



  • In South Sudan, rebel leader Riek Machar was sworn in as first vice president on February 23, 2020. The rebel leader returns as first vice president in a transition government which will serve for 36 months.



  • Katherine Johnson was an American mathematician, who passed away on February 24, 2020. She was 101. Katherine was famous NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) mathematician who led the American space agency to a new height. 

    Her calculations related to space travel played an important role in transporting humans to space. Katherine was one of the first women scientists of NASA who helped humans to reach space. It is believed that the Americans were able to overtake the Soviet Union in the space race because of her contributions.



  • Vietnam’s dissident Buddhist monk, who had been under house arrest since 2003, passed away at the age of 93 years on February 22, 2020. He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize multiple times for his vocal advocacy for democracy. 

    The Buddhist monk was the head of the banned Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam (UBCV). The church reported his death on February 23. As per reports, the Buddhist monk in his will signed in April 2019 has requested a simple funeral, not more than three days and his ashes to be scattered at sea after cremation.



  • In Afghanistan, independent Election Commission on February 18, 2020 announced that Ashraf Ghani has won a second term as President of the Afghanistan.




  • Mickey Wright, often described as the greatest woman golfer of all times, died at Florida in the United States at the age of 85 on February 17, 2020. Her haul of 13 major victories included four US Women's Open titles and four US Women's PGA Championships.




  • Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal took oath as Chief Minister of Delhi for the third consecutive time on February 16, 2020.



  • Indian-origin UK Minister Alok Sharma to lead UN climate summit to be hosted by Britain in November 2020.



  • Rajendra Kumar Pachauri, the former chief of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), passed away on 13 February, 2020 at the age of 79. Pachauri was the chairperson of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in 2007, when it shared the Nobel Peace Prize with former US Vice President Al Gore.



  • Renowned thinker, writer and the founder-director of Bharatiya Vichara KendramP Parameswaran passed away on February 9, 2020 at Ottapalam in kerala. He was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2018 and Padma Shri in 2004. P Parameswaran was one of the senior-most Pracharaks of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, RSS and former leader of the erstwhile Bharatiya Jana Sangh.



  • Well-known Hindi novelist and Padma Shri awardee Giriraj Kishore passed away on February 9, 2020. He was best known for his novel "Pehla Girmitiya" that was based on Mahatma Gandhi''s stay in South Africa. He was awarded the Padma Shri by the President of India and was the recipient of the Sahitya Akademi award.



  • SS Vasan, a doctor of Indian origin, has been made the head of the team of researchers to develop a vaccine to fight the Coronavirus. The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) issued a statement saying that the purpose of this research is to understand the Coronavirus properly. It is undergoing testing at the High-Security Lab of the Animal Health Laboratory (AAHL) of Australia.



  • Kenya's former President Daniel arapMoi has died at the age of 95. Mr Moi was Kenya's longest-serving president. He was in office for 24 years, until intense pressure forced him to step down in 2002.



  • Hollywood legend and veteran actor, Kirk Douglas passed away at Beverly Hills, California in US. He was 103.



  • Mo O’Brien (60 years) has become the first deaf person on record to row an ocean by finishing a 3,000-mile journey across the Atlantic with her daughter Bird Watts, and their friend Claire Allinson.
