  • Wimbledon championship for the first time since World War II
    Wimbledon organizers cancelled the Wimbledon Championships 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

    The first match was scheduled to begin on 29th June 2020. This cancelation has happened for the first time since 1945 since World War II.

    The decision by the organizers to cancel the tournament was widely expected, with the world struggling to contain the spread of COVID-19.




  • China to host the 3rd edition of the Asian Youth Games
    China is to host the third edition of the Asian Youth Games (AYG) in Shantou in November 2021.

    The announcement was made by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) on 1 April 2020. The third edition was supposed to be held in 2017, but was postponed to 2021 by OCA.




  • PV Sindhu named as ‘I am badminton’ awareness campaign ambassador
    The Badminton World Federation (BWF) named Indian shuttler PV Sindhu as one of the ambassadors for its 'I am badminton' awareness campaign.

    I am badminton awareness campaign:
    The "I am badminton campaign" provides a platform for the players to express their love and respect for badminton by advocating and committing to clean and honest play.

    BWF's Integrity Unit was established in 2016. The campaign has been at the forefront of BWF's efforts to communicate its approach to integrity. The unit promotes sports integrity which is about keeping the sport free of corruption, doping, and match manipulation.

    Other players who are included in the campaign are Germany's Marc Zwiebler, Canada's Michelle Li, the Chinese duo of Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong, England's Jack Shephard, Germany's Valeska Knoblauch, and Hong Kong's Chan Ho Yuen.




  • India to host 2020 Asian Boxing Championship
    Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has announced that India will be hosting the 2020 Asian Boxing Championship. The championship is expected to be held during November-December. The host city is yet to be announced later. The announcement was made by the National Federation President Ajay Singh.

    BFI got the hosting rights in February 2020. Asian Boxing Championships were held as two individual events for men and women before 2019. Previously, India organized the men's event in 1980 with Mumbai playing the host. The women's event was hosted by India in 2003 with Hisar, Haryana hosting the event.

    Asian Boxing Championships:
    Asian Boxing Championships is the highest level of competition held for the boxing amateurs in Asia. The first tournament was held in 1963, hosted by Bangkok, Thailand.

    The last Men's championship was held in 2017 at Tashkent, Uzbekistan and the Women's edition was held in 2017 at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The Combined editions (30th edition) was held in 2019 at Bangkok, Thailand.




  • Official mascots of 19th Asian Games unveiled in Hangzhou China
    The official mascots of the 19th Asian Games released at a digital launch ceremony in Hangzhou, China.

    The three robots, which are going to be the mascots for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, are collectively known as the smart triplets.

    The Mascots - Congcong, Lianlian, and Chenchen, which reflect the internet prowess of Hangzhou city and Zhejiang province, were unveiled at a digital ceremony in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.




  • Hockey India donates additional 75 lakh rupees towards PM-CARES Fund
    Hockey India donated an additional Rs 75 lakhs towards the PM-CARES Fund to take its total contribution to Rs 1 crore to tackle worsening COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

    Hockey India earlier donated Rs 25 lakhs towards the cause in April. Hockey India secretary general Rajinder Singh agreed with Mushtaq's views.

    Hockey India has always believed in helping those in need, and I am proud the Executive Board took this unanimous decision to contribute a total of Rs 1.00 crore towards the PM Cares Fund.

    The millions of Indian lives affected because of this pandemic, it was important for us to step up, keeping in mind the interest of the nation. All sportspersons of the country with ace golfer AnirbanLahiri being the latest to donate a sum of Rs 7 lakhs PM-CARES.




  • FIFA Under-17 Women World Cup scheduled in November postponed
    FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup was scheduled to be played in India between November 2nd and 21st postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

    The FIFA-Confederations working group decided in its first meeting held yesterday. The working group postponed FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup which was scheduled between August and September in Panama and Costa Rica.

    The working group has been recently established by the FIFA Council to address the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Under-17 Women's World Cup was scheduled to be played in India across five host cities - Navi Mumbai, Guwahati, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Bhubaneswar.




  • IOC sets new deadline for the qualification period of Tokyo Olympics
    The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that 29 June 2021 has been set as the new deadline for the qualification period of the Tokyo Olympics.

    The decision was made after discussion with the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Presidents, Secretary Generals and Chef de Missions, IOC Director of Solidarity and NOC relations.

    Tokyo Olympics was rescheduled to be held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The revised sport entries deadline has now been set for 5 July 2021.

    The committee also announced that the revision of the qualifications systems will be finalized soon to give certainty to athletes and NOCs.




  • UEFA postpones all the international matches
    UEFA has postponed all the international matches that had been pushed back to June to further notice.

    The decision was made after Europe's 55 member federations discussions on how to adapt the fixture calendar in the face of the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

    UEFA's announcement:
    The postponed matches include the play-off matches for UEFA Euro 2020 and qualifying matches for UEFA Women's Euro 2021.

    It has also postponed all the UEFA competition matches, including the centralized international friendly matches.

    The matches will be held when the countries return to normality. Friendly matches that were postponed include England's matches in Austria, Champions League final, Europa League final.
