  • Sports Authority Gujarat sign an MoU TCLL to train 2000 athletes
    Sports Authority Gujarat signed an MoU with the Times Centre for Learning Limited (TCLL) to impart training for personality and skill development for aspiring athletes in the state. This will be the first-of-its-kind training in the State.

    Highlights:
    The MoU aims to train over 2000 young and aspiring athletes across Gujarat in areas such as Anand, Nadiad, Tapi, Porbandar, Surat, and Himmat Nagar.

    The participants will be selected using an enlisting process.

    The exercise aims to inculcate the idea of ownership and accomplishment about their respective sport among these athletes. It also aims to train psychologically preparing them for their challenging way ahead.



  • SAI announced Rs.30,000 each for 2,749 Khelo India athletes
    Sports Authority of India (SAI) has deposited Rs.30,000 each to 2,749 Khelo India athletes as out of pocket allowance (OPA) amid the COVID-19 lockdown.

    The total sum of the amount is Rs.8.25 crore in all. The announcement regarding disbursement of the Khelo India allowances was made by Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju.

    Highlights:
    SAI announced that a total of 2893 athletes will be given the OPA for the period. The funds for the remaining 144 athletes will be transferred by the end of May 2020.

    The allowance is for the first quarter of 2020-21.

    Athletes from 35 states and union territories (UTs) were given the allowances in 21 sporting disciplines.

    The maximum number of the athletes are from Maharashtra (386), Haryana (381), Delhi (225), Punjab (202) and Tamil Nadu (165).

    The OPA is Rs.1.20 lakh allotted annually. It is a part of the Khelo India scholarship of Rs.6.28 lakh that is given to each athlete selected under the scheme.



  • FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in India to begin in 2021 February
    The FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup has been rescheduled between 17 February and 7 March 2021. The recommendations were made by the FIFA-Confederations COVID-19 Working Group, the Bureau of the FIFA Council.

    Highlights:
    FIFA announced that the tournament will keep original eligibility criteria which are the players born on or after 1 January 2003 and on or before 31 December 2005 despite the postponement.

    The U-17 Women's World Cup was originally scheduled to be played across five host cities Navi Mumbai, Guwahati, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Bhubaneswar.

    Also, it announced that the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Costa Rica/Panama 2020 has been rescheduled between 20 January and 6 February 2021. The tournament will keep original eligibility criteria for players born on or after 1 January 2000 and on or before 31 December 2004.

    FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2020 has been rescheduled to be held between 12 September and 3 October 2021.
